Introduction

Interior doors are an important part of the interior. Doors set accents, add completeness, and harmonize with the environment. Today, there are many types of interior doors: by style, material, and design. In this article, we will analyze what characteristics to pay attention to when choosing a door.

1、Type of interior door

· Hinge Doors

These are the most common doors. Secured to a door jamb with hinges, sufficient clearance is required for the door to swing open and shut unhindered - open towards or away from you.

Pros: affordable price, easy installation, versatility. Sliding - move along the wall on a roller mechanism. The advantage is space saving. The main disadvantage is low insulation from noise and odors.

· Pocket Doors

Pocket doors are doors embedded in the wall. They abandon the traditional hinge design and are opened or closed by sliding on tracks.

When in use, the door panel can be hidden in the wall and can be revealed when not in use, thus saving space and improving the overall design. Pocket doors only occupy the thickness of the wall and will not encroach on the interior space.

Therefore, it is an excellent choice for small kitchens and bathrooms.

· Folding Doors

Leaf that folds in half when opened. Such doors are popular in America and Europe, and have recently become popular in Russia. The main advantage is space saving, which is especially important in small rooms (bathroom, hallway, dressing room). The only downside is that they are more expensive than a swing door and have a smaller variety of designs.

· Barn Doors

At present, barn doors are very popular as a very fashionable interior decoration door.

Barn doors were originally warehouse doors of foreign farms. They have a simple appearance and unique charm. After being redesigned and improved, they are applied to interior decoration.

Barn doors with exposed tracks and wild or graceful door shapes can be matched with almost any decoration style. They are also a kind of hanging track door.

2、Material of Interior Doors

The most common materials:

· All Natural Solid Wood

Doors made of solid oak, ash, and beech are durable and strong, but at the same time they are expensive.

Disadvantages of solid wood doors

Such doors are heavy and over time the hinges begin to sag

Wood does not resist moisture well, so it is not suitable for installation in the bathroom.

· Solid Wood Composite Door

Combined from a combination of different materials: chipboard, MDF, veneer, plywood, PVC etc.

These doors have solid wood and MDF on the inside and natural wood (veneer) on the outside.

Advantages: cheaper than 100% solid wood, looks very similar to real wood. Veneer is glued to the solid wood so that the seams are not visible.

· WPC Door

WPC is the abbreviation of wood plastic composite material, which is a new environmentally friendly material that combines the advantages of wood and plastic. WPC can achieve zero formaldehyde. Compared with traditional MDF (medium density fiberboard) and solid wood, this material has several advantages: waterproof, non-deformation, anti-termite, durable, etc.

3、Choose Different Veneer According to Your Needs

· PVC

It is a kind of plastic. The door panels made by this finishing process are called film pressed doors or blister door panels. The density board is carved into various shapes by machine, and then pressed by high temperature with PVC film.

Advantages: stain resistance, anti-fading, high wear resistance, simple daily maintenance

Disadvantages: poor high temperature resistance, not resistant to ultraviolet rays.

·  Melamine

A layer of melamine paper on the surface of the substrate, and then use PVC material sealing strips to seal the edges on all sides.

The board made of the substrate is called melamine board, double facing board, paint-free board, ecological board, etc.

Advantages: affordable price, various colors; realistic surface effects such as imitation wood grain and stone grain

Disadvantages: general moisture resistance, cannot make cabinet doors with shapes, high requirements for substrate.

· PET

It is a food-grade packaging material. Our common mineral water bottles are also made of PET material, which is non-toxic and tasteless. It has skin-feeling, matte, and high-gloss finishes. Applicable substrates: density board, particle board.

Advantages: environmental protection, fine and high-grade texture, wear resistance.

Disadvantages: cannot be shaped, flat, expensive.

Each type of door offers unique benefits and drawbacks, so it’s essential to assess your specific needs and preferences.
